If you are comparing formula and breastmilk, if you can, go with breastmilk. It has health benefits that just can't be totally replicated in formula. If you are comparing formula and whole milk, go with formula until at least age 1-year. Before that, babies don't process whole milk as well.

Baby formula can be better when your child has developed an allergy to the milk. There are many formulas available on the market today that can help ease the discomfort of a lactose intollerance or a milk protien allergy from your milk. However, keep in mind that baby formula is more expensive.

Baby formula. For the first year of your baby's life ONLY give your child either breast milk or infant formula. NEVER give your child cows milk. Cow's milk is meant for baby cows, not for baby humans. It lacks the nutrients that a human infant needs to grow and thrive.
