40's fashion during the war was minimal due to rationing restrictions. Big shoulders, cotton dresses, and military inspired skirt suits were popular. In the later part of the decade fashion became more feminine and cinched waists with full skirts started to become more popular.

The looks as in black and white French films, simple and nice dresses, a hat with a big bow, a dress with a large vest, or a dress with a big rose on the shoulder.
