The Beaufort Scale is an empirical measure to describe wind speed/wind force based mainly on observed sea conditions. It is used primarily for maritime wind forecast depending on high waves. Wind force or hurricane is tracked using Beaufort scale in the usual range of 0 to 12 or extended up to 23.

The Beaufort wind scale is a way to tell how fast the wind is moving by watching the trees or water instead of using a speed meter. This system was developed in 1805 by Sir Francis Beaufort of England.
