What can you tell me about vasectomy failure?

Answer by  djoek (122)

It doesn't happen a lot. After a vasectomy you have to use another way of contraception for a certain amount of time because there is still viable sperm. After that time it doesn't go wrong much, but the spermvessels can stay open.

The bottom line here is that you could get the lady you are sleeping with pregnant and you absolutely must use a backup form of birth control. You should also seek your operating doctor's and/or a second opinion regarding the failed operation.

They rarely ever happen. For a vasectomy to fail, the tube that is cut would have had to have been cut so short that it was able to heal itself. Usually a doctor will take a good portion of the tube out so there is no way it can heal.

You have a 1 in 100 chance of failure. In some cases the two ends that are cut can reconnect and produce sperm again. Success rate is high but I recommend talking with a doctor first to see if he has the experience.
