What can I do to speed up Windows XP?

It was fine and all of a sudden it's very slow. Sometimes it crashes, too.

Be sure to have disk space available. With very low disk space Windows will have to use a smaller amount of memory for memory swapping thus making your PC slower. You might also consider defragmenting your hard disk from time to time in order to reduce disk access latency.

You should do basic maintenance on it. Start with doing a spy-ware detector than go on to the other ones: Virus scan, Registry Cleaner, Registry De-frag, Scan Disk, and a defrag. If those don't work go into your MSConfig and disable some processes that start on start up and you can also remove some programs that you no longer use.

If the windows XP slowed down suddenly , then it might be spyware and viruses try to get rid of all spywares and viruses .. best ways to speed up ur pc - defragment your computer (start>run>"dfrg.msc") - perform a disk clean up. (start>run>"cleanmgr.exe") - stop unwanted start-up programs. thanks

Please make sure you uninstall any recent software that may be causing it to slow. It is also important to check your computer for viruses.
