First, make sure that your puppy does not have fleas. If not, most itching is due to a food allergy. The most common food allergies in dogs are corn, wheat, soy and chicken. Switch to a food that does not have these ingredients.

American bulldogs have very flaky dry skin. One solution which the dog will love is cans of mackerel on their food. Mackerel is a very oily fish high in omega 3 which lends to relieving dry skin. The tablets will do the trick too.

First, check for fleas, bug bites, dry/irritated skin, etc. If dry or flaky skin is the problem, bathe him with a dandruff shampoo and apply aloe. If you still can't detect or fix the problem, your vet may prescribe an allergy medication or steroid to alleviate the itch.

Check him for fleas and give him a bath with a hypo-allergenic dog shampoo. If your dog continues to be itchy after this, then get him to a vet; he may have food allergies and might have to be put on a restrictive diet.
