They often suffer from mite infestations and breathing problems. If they are kept in a very small cage they can become overweight and this adds stress to the heart. Sometimes they have foot problems and overgrown claws. If kept in unclean surroundings or if their water is not changed regularly they can have bacterial infections.

Most parakeets I have seen have suffered from common respiratory problems. They had problems breathing. Sometimes the parakeets I had, often had mites on them. You can from time to time see other problems such as a decrease of appetite and body problems such as odor and also overgrown claws.
