Respiratory problems are among the most common bird illnesses. If you see a bird breathing with its mouth open while at rest, there is a good chance that it is sick. Also if you see dirty feathers, weight loss, tail bobbing and changes in vocalization your bird may be sick.

It is common for parakeets to get mites, colds (from drafts), diarrhea, respiratory problems such as an infection and even feather plucking. Please take it to an Avian Vet.
