The United States mint started producing a 24kt Gold Buffalo coin in 2006. The coin is a $50 gold piece, not a Nickel. If your coin is labeled as a nickel, it is most likely a silver or alloy coin plated with gold. If your coin is labeled $50 it is one ounce of gold worth $1300-$1400
