You need to be direct and forceful. It is not kind to let them think that they have a chance. Explain that you do not want to be with them.

I would tell them that although you think they are a nice person you prefer that they don't bother you and that you would be their friend but nothing else.

When you are involved in certain personal affairs which you do not share with others, some one enter your room and you want to avoid his presence. Initially behave decently and tell him politely that you have a bad headache and wish to take rest. He will leave you alone.
