An Achilles tendon rupture is extremely painful. If you only have minor pain in that area, you probably just have a small sprain of some sort, not a ruptured tendon.

You bet you'd know if your Achilles tendon ruptured. It would be exceedingly painful and you'd not be able to walk. The tendon is vidal in your ability to walk and when the tendon is severed it would hurt and you'd not be able to walk. You might have strained it.
