How do I set the size of a window in XP?

Point your mouse to the very corner of the window you wish to re-size. An arrow should appear. left click and hold down the arrow to drag the window.

You can't say that in general. It depends on the window you want to define. With the internet explorer go to HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Main and delete Window_Placement. For other windows use the right mouse submenu ("show in") of the corresponding link. Here you can choose maximize for example.

In windows XP, the size of a window is predetermined and set to default. You can adjust the size only when a window is in a restored mode.
