I imagine you are looking for something to get the iron out of your hair (iron causes rust). You can try a shampoo for hard water. You will only use it once a week, but it will help to keep the iron from building up and will make your hair feel much better.

Purchase a rust removal product from beauty supply store. Following instructions, wash hair with rust removal shampoo. Several applications may be required before rust deposits fade or are permanently removed from your hair. Suggested product is Purifying Solutions Crystal Clarifying Treatment, however, check with store clerk for alternatives. Take precautions against rust build-up by considering water filter system.

The first and easiest to use is baking soda. Wet your hair and put shampoo in your hand with equal parts of baking soda. Massage into your hair and leave on for about 30 seconds to a minute and rinse. Repeat if nessesary. You can also try lemon juice if you have blond hair but this can be very drying.

Mix instant lemonade and water to sort of a paste and apply liberally to your hair. Leave it on for 20-45 minutes and follow with a sulfate free shampoo.

Try rinsing your hair with vinegar and cream of tartar, or with lemon juice. Your local salon will sell a shampoo that will take it out as well, but you may as well try the homemade versions first. I have found they work well.
