How do I go about re-installing Windows XP on a Compaq Presario 700?

I assume you were provided with the original Windows XP cd. Just insert the cd into the tray, then reboot the computer and make sure the bios is booting from the cd. Follow the onscreen instructions, you can either repair an existing windows installation or format and install it from scratch (losing your previous data)

the same way you go with any other brand - burn it, adjust bootable device dvd drive and follow the installation.

Installing from the CD after booting the existing installation will let you keep the current programs and files. Otherwise, insert the CD and boot from it for a fresh install.

What brand of computer you have is irrelevant. Simply format your hard drive by typing format C:\, and then boot off the Windows XP CD.
