Basically, you are determining the area of a circle. To do this, you must measure the radius, which is half of the length of the circle from end to end, going through the middle. Then, square it (multiply it times itself) and then multiply by pi (roughly 3. 14159).

To determine the surface area of a cirle - how much space it takes up, you have to multiply the number "pi" by the radius (distance from centre to edge) squared (A = π x r x r).
