How do you go about figuring square footage?

You need the geometric formulas for measuring area. The simplest is for a rectangle, and the best way of estimating area is to combine rectangles. The formula is simply "length times width", so measure all lengths and widths in feet. Apply for each rectangle and add them together.

To figure out square footage you take the depth and the width of the item to be measured in feet and multiply the two measurements together, this will give you the square footage of the item.
