Does maple take a wood stain very well?

Can you give me any helpful hints?

Yes, maple should be fine at taking a wood stain. Be sure the wood doesn't have any type of varnish already on it, if it does you must sand it.

Maple is a very hard, tight grain wood. These characteristics will cause it to not accept stain evenly appearing spotty. Try applying a sealer prior to staining.

yeah it is smooth and soft on the wood which allows for it to take any stain with moderate responsibility and it will not fold or bend on it. Maple is one of the strongest woods there is in the amrket and it makes the prettiest and niciest furniture highly recommended.
