Does iron rust?

Yes iron will rust. There are several ways to prevent this from happening. You could paint or varnish the object. An oil based version would probably be best. If you are storing cast iron, say a tool or machine top, coat it with grease then cover with plastic wrap or waxed paper.

Yes iron will rust after being exposed to the elements. Rust is oxidation of the iron when it combines with water and oxygen in the air. The way to try and prevent this is to treat the iron with rust proof coating. This will keep the oxygen and water in the air from being able to combine with the iron.

Yes Iron rusts and it can be prevented by applying grease or oil to it and by applying a coating of nickel or stainless steel on it,this coating of nickel and stainless steel also makes it resistant to corrosion and lasts a longer time than the oil and grease but these are better short term solutions to the problem.
