Yes, now you do need a passport to visit Jamaica. In the past this wasn't true, espcecially for cruises but now the passport is a requirement. This change took effect in 2007 and often is a source of confusion. Leave enough time to get that passport and enjoy Jamaica!

The new passport laws requires that all US citizens have a passport when leaving the United States, even when traveling to Mexico and Canada. This was changes after 9-11.

Yes. US citizens need a passport or other valid travel document (in practice, this usually means a passport). They may also possibly need to get a visa for longer stays or if they are planning to work.
