Do you have the right to leave after being accused of shoplifting?

That is if you did not shoplift.

You should keep all receipts from when you go shopping to prove that you have paid for all the goods you have bought. This will prove that you can leave.

If you have formally been arrested, then no you don't. If you didn't, let the court process play out, but if you leave, you could be charged with other offences.

At a public store you do have the rigt to leave if you have been accused of shoplifting but never did the crime. However, if no crime was comitted then the right thing to do would be to stay and clear up the situation.

When accused, I can leave the place after establishing my innocense. Apart from that I can also make a damage suit against the shop owner. Otherwise, I will be subjected to the prevailing rules and required to fullfill the requirement of damage or missing items as alleged against me by the complainant.

If the store believes you shoplifted they have the right to detain you because you are on private property. Asking for a police officer and lawyer is a good decision.
