Goldfish are like most other species of aquarium fish. They will definitely eat their babies. To protect them you have to isolate the little fish as soon as they are born. She will have them and then immediately start swimming through the tank eating the babies. Other fish in the tank will them as well.

It depends on what kind of fish, but yes a lot of fish do eat their own off spring fishes.
