Dogs can't take human laxatives. You can try mixing a little bit of pumpkin or corn into his food as this will generally loosen things up. You can also try giving him some milk twice a day. 1/8 of a cup for small dogs and 1/2 of a cup for larger dogs. See your vet if this doesn't work.

You can give dogs laxatives. There are over the counter laxatives sold at your local petstores that are specifically formulated for dogs.

Dogs may become constipated if they are dehydrated, lack fiber in their diet or have been fed unfamiliar foods. If your dog becomes constipated and it has been longer than normal between bowel movements, a mild laxative may be given. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian for dosage instructions, as this will vary with the size of your dog.

Absolutely not! Never give a dog any medication that is designed for human consumption without the supervision of a veterinary professional.

Try not to give your dog any sort of laxative that was meant for humans these drugs were only meant for humans. If your vet has not prescribed a laxative you can give your dog some juice such as orange juice or cranberry. These have lots of sugar in them that should make your pup poo with no problem.
