Cardizem[diltiazem] is a calcium channel blocker prescribed for hypertension commonly. It has a negative inotropic effect and decreases the heart rate resulting in decreased pulse rate.
Cardizem CD is a drug used in the treatment of Angina Pectoris or chest pain. Side effects include abnormally slow heartbeats,dizziness and fatigue. So the pulse will be lower than normal if a person is on Cardizem medication.
Check your blood pressure and pulse rate regularly. You may feel dizzy or lightheaded. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. To reduce the risk of dizzy or fainting spells, do not sit or stand up quickly, especially if you are an older patients. Avoid alcoholic drinks.
Cardizem lowers your heart rate. If your heart rate speeds up it is a serious side effect and very rare and you shoule seek immediate medical attention.
