Why is Bridge to Terabithia banned in some school libraries?

My friend's daughter read it in the forth grade, but it is banned in my school's library.

Some people seem to find the fact that death is a big part of the plot a problem. And a character's constant use of the word "Lord". It is a silly reason to some of us but then again other books have been banned. It isn't bad and if your daughter wants to read it then I would allow it.

This particular book was banned because some schools considered it to be to violent and "abusive" for children of younger ages.

This book has been banned by some schools because it deals with the subject of death, has some offensive language, and the fantasy elements have been considered by some conservative groups to promote "witchcraft".

Bridge to Terabithia is banned in some schools because of subject matter. I suggest you ask your school specifically why they banned it. Many schools find that the subject matter of death is objectionable for the age group that the book targets.
