Why do NFL teams trade players?

I mean, wasn't that team stupid to trade Brett Farve?

A good portion of the problem has to do with each teams salary cap. Many teams have to trade players because they can not afford to keep the player.

NFL teams, along with all sports teams, trade players because they feel it's best for the team. Obviously it doesn't always work out for both teams, but it usually is trying to fill a need for the team.
