Why did they use so many gas masks in World War 2?

World War Two, did not see as much use of gas as World War One however, Gas Masks were used because gas was a real danger.

Yes. Mustard Gas was not yet banned by the Geneva Conventions and both sides were using chemical warfare against one another. If you were not wearing a gas mask in battle, often you would have your lungs burned from the inside out.
