If the mare's bag is swollen and hot, she may have a case of mastitis. This is very painful, and the infection can spread. I'd get her vetted to check.

This can me caused by an infection in which case you need to call the vet. This can also be caused by a foal nursing mare. This can cause the horses nipples to crack and bleed. It can also be something simple like weeds or tall grass scratching and breaking the nipples.

If blood is coming from your mare's teats, chances are she has an infection, commonly known as mastitis. A veterinarian can suggest treatment options.

If she is nursing a foal and the weather is cold you need to call the vet and ask them what to do for chapped nipples other wise you need to have the vet look at it.

Bleeding nipples in horses can be caused by several things. ONe case of many would be if you have a foal nursing from a mare. Improper suckling can cause the mare's nipples to crack and bleed. Another case would be high weeds that the horse is walking through in the pasture. They can scratch and cut their nipples.

Bleeding nipples in horses can be caused by several things but infection called mastitis.Rule out other option first. Is she feeding a foal? could the horse been injured? best bet is to take it to a vet and run test's to be certain.
