Helen Keller was both blind and deaf- the fact that she overcame her obstacles and learned what she did is amazing. So she is famous partly due to her disabilities- but because she had an amazingly dedicated helper to help teach her these things. That is why she is famous.
Hellen Keller was a deaf mute blind girl. I would say that its not so much her disabillities that made her famous, but her abillity to overcome those factors which truly made her famous.
Helen Keller is known for her political activism - she helped found the ACLU, was opposed to war, and supported women's rights. She was an author and a world-wide lecturer.
