In the second financial quarter of 2010 the state of Tennessee currently has the lowest cost of living. It is followed closely by Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Kansas. Most of these states are in the Midwest.
A lot of the Southern states tote the lower costs of living. The lowest would be Mississippi or Alabama, and I would recommend Alabama - it's beautiful. Two other states that have low costs are the Dakotas.
