If you owe money you can wait unti the last day to pay which is typically april fifteenth if it does not fall on a weekend.

Generally if you file a accurate return you can expect a refund with 6 weeks. You can call the Refund hotline after 72 hours to check the status of your account at: 1-800-829-1954. Refunds from amended returns can take 8-12 weeks. If you file electronically you might expect a refund in 3 weeks.

Federal tax payments are due, and supposed to be postmarked by April 15 unless you file an extension. An extension lets you file your actual forms at a later date.

2009 taxes and tax payments are due by April 15, 2010, unless you file for an extension from the IRS. With an extension, payments may be delayed as late as October of 2010. Of course, you will be accumulating tax liability throughout 2010 that will be due April 15, 2011. It is best to pay sooner rather than later.
