Quarter Horses can be at approximately 40 to 45 miles per hour in a few seconds. Most Thoroughbreds take a few seconds longer to achieve full speed, but in races longer than a sprint, they only maintain this pace briefly.
Typically race horses run about 35 MPH, that is the verae. Some have been reported to run at around 42 MPH. There are many things that affect the speed of the horse, such as whether they are running on compact dirt or different turf. The fastest horses are usallt running at about 60 feet per second.
