I think Dawn is the best soap. Studies have shown that an antibacterial isn't really needed if the dishes are washed and rinsed well.

I'm not a "brand buyer" so I don't think there is a best brand. However, I do firmly believe in anti-bacterial dish soap, especially after my daughter contracted salmonella poisoning last month.

I tend to think that the best dish detergent is the cheapest dish detergent, because in the end, it is just soap. But I have heard that Bio-Vert is really good for washing fruits and vegetables because it does not leave residue, and worked at an organic juice bar where the used it to wash dishes as well.

Anti-bacterial in dish washing soap is not necessary but is nice to have. I like Dawn for my pots and pans but generic works just as well.

Use any name brand dish detergent but avoid the anti-bacterial. The ingredients in the anti-bacterial will get into our water systems which is a very bad thing for the environment.
