Citizens could also wear a toga, for non-citizens weren't allowed to wear togas. If you were a citizen, you could also vote, legally marry, run for office, sue& be sued& have a trial and you could have a legal contract. Being a citizen in Ancient Rome was the LIFE MAN!!!!

Roman citizens were entitled to many more rights, and there were limits to the punishments that could be inflicted. One could only receive the death penalty if guilty of treason.

Roman citizens enjoyed a great number of benefits that non-citizens did not. One of those benefits was the right to a real trial, and the opportunity to appeal to Caesar if the accused person felt wrongly treated. Additionally, Roman citizens could not be punished by crucifixion, even if they were found guilty of a terrible crime.
