What was the original recipe for Coca-Cola?

The cocaine thing was a myth, right?

The cocaine thing is not a myth, it was included as part of the soda. It contained coca leaves and kola nuts. Hence the reason soda was served at a pharmacy. It was cocaine free in 1929. Dr. Pepper, created about the same time, contained only caffeine but was recommended to be taken at 10, 2, and 6 as medicine.

Cocaine was originally in Coca-Cola, but back then they used cocaine much like we use caffeine today. The History channel has a great series about the history of illegal drugs.

I'm not sure what the original recipe was exactly, but it originally did in fact contain cocaine. They stopped using fresh coca leaves in 1903. They still use the leaves of the coca plant for flavoring. A company extracts the cocaine, sells it to a pharmaceutical company, and then coke gets the "spent" leaves. Believe it or not.
