The original function of the internet was for academics to share information. The first HTML was developed to ensure that graphics and styled text showed up on everyone's screen in the same fashion.

The original function of the internet was to provide a secure and instant communication network for the military and government in the event of nuclear war. It was separate to phones and wireless communication networks.
