What things lower your credit score?

Obviously non-payment does.

Non-payment and collections on your account play a part. The length of your credit history plays a part. Also, the amount of credit utilization plays a part. That is, the percentage of your available credit being used as a percentage.

Your credit score can be affected negatively by applying for and being denied a credit card or car loan. Credit inquiries are run each time you apply, and the more there are, the worse it will affect your credit.

There are a couple of different things that can lower your credit score. One thing is having too many lines of credit, another is having a very short credit history.
