What should you look for when buying antique musical instruments?

I would look for a serial number and a brand name. There are databases (often online) where you can learn the original date and manufacturer of the instrument. Check action of moving parts. Look for obvious major damage when considering the value of the instrument. Play the instrument if possible to hear the quality of the sound.

Aside from nostalgic reasons, I would look at the overall condition of the instrument, looking closely for any cracks in the wood. Depending on price, scratches and wear from normal use is often not a deal breaker. If you intend to play it, play it first before you buy it.

It depends why you want them. For decorative purposes just look for what pleases you. If you intend to play them you need to know their sound quality and state of repair. Ideally, have an expert look at any instrument you are considering buying, and if you don't know how to play it have someone who can "test drive" it.

When buying antique instruments you must check for the wood of the instrument (if any) is not splintered or swollen, if drums, make sure the skin is not worn out.
