Your four year old knows what he knows. You can't expect him to have talents in math or anything else academic unless you have been trying to teach him yourself before he is in school. Your kid is "normal". How ever you want to see that term, since to me there really isn't a completely normal person.

Four year old can be just now learning their colors, or reading small books. Children all develop at their own pace. Unless something seems wrong, they will develop at the pace that is normal for them.

Your four year old should be able to follow two step directions, talk in complete sentences and understand right from wrong. As well as his ABC's and how to count to ten.

Your four year old should know his full name. He should learn his home address (number, street and city). He should know his parents names. He should count to 20 and know the alphabet.

By age four children usually know the alphabet and how to count to at least twenty. Other things include speaking clearly along with good hand to eye coordination with small things such as blocks and puzzle pieces.

Your child should know how to share with others. He is going to enter preschool soon so sharing and getting along with other children is the most vital thing to know right now. Your son is probably normal so don't be worried.
