What should I look for in cast iron cookware?

Does Lodge make a good product?

Cast iron pans require care, some varieties more than others. Some have an enamel coating which reduces maintenance but diminishes the cast iron benefits. Others com pre-seasoned which saves some time. Heavier pans are better, but don't get one that is too heavy to be practical. Look for a sturdy handle as well. Lodge pans seem to get great reviews.

They are all pretty much the same. Make sure the piece seems sturdy and isn't painted. Enamel covered cast iron is really good for baking in as well. You will have to season the pan once you get it home.
