What questions should I ask before signing a Gas Lease?

What happens if this causes my water supply to become unusable? What protection do you offer if there is an oil leak? If the unit requires maintenance, will trucks have to drive over my property? Who is responsible for capping the well? What payments do I receive if you keep drilling after the lease is over?

Before you sign a document turning over rights on your property, have an attorney review the paperwork. Whatever concerns you have must be covered in the lease, not in Q&A.

You would want to know about your surface rights, and you would want to know about renewal. You would also want to know about your initial payment and any residual payments that might be forthcoming. You would also want to ask about what your options were if you chose not to sign.
