What makes designer clothing so expensive?

I see stuff that is almost the same and cheaper.

Often time, designer clothing is made of better quality material that can last longer and/or feel better. It can look the same but the fit might have minor differences that do not look as good. Or, there is a legacy involved in that designer and it costs more to get that status symbol that is the clothing.

designer clothes are expensive because of the designers. its just the name on the label. buying off the rack is much cheaper and sometimes you can buy designer clothing much cheaper. dont waste your money.

I think it's because of all the advertising they do. It could also be the quality of the materials and where its imported from.

Some of the price difference is for legitimate reasons. The quality of fabrics are higher and sometimes they are handmade and not machine sewn. But you are also paying for that name and logo on the clothes. Often after designers release their lines, other designers will make a similar style in cheaper fabrics which is why you find things similar.
