This can be hard to narrow down to just one thing. Most cigar manufacture's are done by automation in this current economic times. The blend of different tobacco's and batches usually determines the flavor of any particular batch of cigars.

Basically the strength of a cigar is based on the type of tobacco used in it. A darker, more mature tobacco typically produces a deeper and richer flavor.
