Trichomonas is most often treated with metronidazole medications (500-2500 mg daily). Metronidazole drugs are antiprotozoal's with antibacterial effects. The most prescribed form of metronidazole is Flagyl. The common side effect include dry or metallic tasting mouth, low white blood cell counts, and nausea. Alternative treatment for trichomonas will be used during pregnancy with clotrimazole vaginal tablets.
