Usually treated with plasma transfusions , combined with plasmapheresis. The combination of the two procedures is known as a plasma exchange.

The most common treatment choice for TTP is plasmapheresis. This is a procedure where blood is removed through a catheter and the plasma is filtered out and removed. The patient's blood is returned with added plasma from a donor. Frequently patients are put on immunosuppressive medications (such as prednisone or prednisolone) in addition to the plasmapheresis.

The best treatment is electrophoresis, where they use an instrument to remove the patient's plasma, which contains the components responsible for making him/her clot improperly. An other line of defense is the use of steroids.
