The Florida Panthers are actually a National League Hockey team, not a football team. The Florida Panthers though came into the NHL in 1994, and play out of the Bank Atlantic Center.
Wayne Huizenga, founder of Blockbuster Video, was awarded an NHL franchise in 1992, after a series of exhibition games showed the NHL that hockey in Florida was possible.
