The cause of cysts in the mouth is not known. A majority of the oral cysts are not cancerous. If you still have concerns about the oral cyst, then go to your dentist. Dentists do a routine screening of your enire mouth (not just teeth) to detect any abnormalities inside of your mouth.

A cyst is a sac or pouch that forms under the skin or in bone. Oral cysts are found in the head or neck. The most common oral cyst found in the mouth is from an infection in the tooth pulp or nerve, which is typically caused by decay. Usually cysts are removed by an oral surgeon under local anesthesia.

Oral cysts may be benign, such as a canker sore, or it may indicate a more serious condition. Any sore that lingers should be checked out by a doctor.
