What is the best way to remove carpet?

I have hard wood floors underneath.

The carpet is only held by the tack strip around the edges. Cut it up with a utility knife and haul it out. The padding is likely stapled to the floor, just carefully pull at the pad to remove it, and use a staple puller or some plastic tool to remove the staples. Be easy when removing the tack strip.
