As with all plants, the more nitrogen the more leaves. If you're in Florida, you have access to loads of free nitrogen rich fertilizer. A mix of coffee grounds and seaweed is just the thing and with that national coffee chain giving away their coffee grounds, you can't go wrong.

Any general purpose fertilizer is fine, preferably one with high acidity. You could use azalea fertilizer. If your plant is outside all the time, during the early fall use a higher nitrogen fertilizer, after that time only use a fertilizer with higher phosphorus and potassium(potash). This will keep your plant as healthy as possible.

The best way to find out is go to your local greenhouse and tell them what the problem is and what you want to do and they will be able to give you alot of very good information as well as all the directions you need to do the job right the first time.

Crotons respond well to a good all-purpose fertilizer, but especially one with a high acid rating like an azalea fertilizer.
