There is no quarantine. Paperwork is required to assure the dog's health and up-to-date vaccinations. Transporting a dog overseas is brutal for the dog and should be avoided unless you plan to stay for a few years.

I think there are certain permits one needs to travel with a dog to Germany. The dog certainly needs a health examination and certain vaccinations. Also, if you are flying on a plane, you will usually need a special cage for the dog, and you will need to pay extra to transport the dog, of course.

Well, the thing with dogs is, you shouldn't be taking your pet with you. If you are taking a dog with you, it has to be handled in a separate compartment. You have to also get a visa for your dog. It has to be certified by the vet to cross borders.

The must be vaccinated for rabies at least 30 days but less than 12 months prior to entry. Proof of examination must be presented at the border. You must show proof that a hotel or landlord permits the dog. Some German states have bans on certain breeds.

Some breeds require a muzzle and / or a leash in certain areas. Be sure to observe signs regrding dogs, when you want to enter a building like a shop. Some cities have fines for dogs, that soil parks, playgrounds etc. and officers to enforce them. So use the bags that are provided in many public parks.

It would be wise to get the dog's vaccination records translated into German just in case it would be necessary to visit a Veterinarian in Germany. Visit the German government web site and the web site for your home country. You don't want to be surprised by something like a required quarantine.
