You will need to make sure that the seer size of the air handler and the condenser are matched. Otherwise you will damage the condenser and that will blow a large hole in your wallet! I've heard that in some place a mismatched condenser and air handler is illegal!

Hi,
if you mismatch your air handler and condenser then it will void any warranty on your AC. So be double careful.  add a comment

My friend was given an estimate of 4000$ to replace the air handler. it may be worth spending 100$ to get a thorough inspection done to check for leaks and dirt (that can be cleaned) before you change the air handler.

Before you replace the air handler, try cleaning the coils and the air handler - if this solves your problem you just saved yourself a lot of money. An effective way to do this is to blow air with a blower in the reverse direction through the coils and handler.

Don't forget to vacuum the inside of the air handler. This will complete the job and hopefully take care of whatever problem you have.  add a comment
